wxDownload Fast- License: Open Source
- Description: wxDownload Fast is an open-source download manager based on the cross-platform wxWidgets GUI kit. It supports all the features you’d expect in a download manager, and it has a small memory footprint as well.
LeechGet- License: Freeware
- Description: LeechGet is a download manager, similar to GetRight or Download Accelerator Plus, except LeechGet contains no spyware and is complete free for personal use. It integrates directly into your browser (those of you with a Mozilla browser can use the Flashgot extension), is extremely customizable, and fast.
Orbit Downloader- License: Freeware
- Description: Orbit Downloader is a full-featured download manager under constant development. It features a lot of good hooks for new things like direct FLV (flash video file) downloaders.
Free Download Manager- License: Open Source
- Description: “Free Download Manager (FDM) is a full-featured download accelerator and manager. It is absolutely free! Using this software product you can easily download a list of files and whole web sites from any remote server via HTTP, HTTPS and FTP. With FDM the downloading process will be as easy as never before!”
DownThemAll- License: Open Source
- Description: DownThemAll is an extension for Firefox that serves as a download manager, and is quite effective. This program is only a Mozilla extension—it is not a standalone application.
FlashGet- License: Freeware
- Description: Probably the best standalone download manager. It used to come either as a paid version or as a banner-bloated piece of adware. It seems that as of v1.72, it is completely free, without banners or adware.
Don’t forget Gigaget, its like flashget only with more features for the advanced user.
BTW – Download managers have grown out of the old Dial Up speed helper into being great for picking up speed in grabbing files from mirrors and free file hosting sites like MegaUpload, Files-Upload.com etc etc. Really speeds up downloads from the free file hosting sites.

no seriously its a great download manager and integrates in all major browsers + it has a community that sometimes warns you if you are downloading a virus or sumthing
Thanks for the suggestions, but FDM is already up there…
I think that flashget official site is http://www.flashget.com/
Thanks for the heads-up, Madcama. I’m pretty sure .net used to work when I first added Flashget to this page, but that domain apparently went unrenewed since then.
http://orbitdownloader.com/
works in IE & FF – grabs Flash & .flv, but is also fast ‘regular’ DL-manager.
