Have tunes, will shuffle:
- Faux Real, Tho (I have more than one FRT on my front page….)
- Smedley Log (isn’t it funny how no one cared about “Such Great Heights” until Iron & Wine covered it?)
- Jill @ Feministe (is it awful that I really like “Like a Prayer”?)
- Teh Rusteh (I like Anathema, but I like the most recent stuff especially)
- The Sam and Beckyboo Show (isn’t it ironic that No Doubt has a song called “Don’t Let Me Down,” which is from an album which marked its startlingly rapid decline into execrableness?)
- Apartment 2024 (Aimee Mann’s work on Magnolia was spectacular…)
- The BM Rant (some more Rufus Wainwright action)

Actually - I’ve the most love for the 1st CD (the self-titled) and agree with your observation, with the nadir being GS’s solo album. So bad, even I didn’t get it (and I feel like I got the last ND on autopilot).
I really loved Tragic Kingdom—I mean, it was a truly fabulous album; nearly as fabulous as Matchbox 20’s first album. I picked up the self-titled and didn’t care for it as much, at least not in the face of TK.
My uncle maintains that Return to Saturn is their zenith—I won’t agree, but neither do I belabor the issue. There is little doubt, though, that Rock Steady, and its sudden infatuation with the ghetto fabulous, was pabulum at best and offal at worst. Don’t even get me started on Gwen’s solo career. “Hollaback Girl” indeed.
I have love for Tragic Kingdom too - that’s the one that got me in the 1st place. No Doubt is a group that maybe would have stayed good if maybe noone ever noticed how “hot” Gwen is.. But then maybe they would have never gotten noticed at all or gone the way of Romeo Void (cursed by Debora Iyall’s infernal lack-of-hot). Sigh.
It should be Kantele, surely?
Hmm, not sure how I managed that one.

Interesting observation. I can say I would have never discovered the song myself if it hadn’t been for the Garden State soundtrack. Though I do have several friends who are huge fans of The Postal Service, the electronic sound of the original version of this song pretty much just turns me off. At the same time, while I like the stripped down version from Iron & Wine just fine, I wouldn’t say it’s on my list of favorites. It’s a nice song, with good lyrics, but that’s about it.
