The site, while it occasionally hits the proverbial nail on the head (read the entry on music piracy), the overall one dimensional nature of the whole thing makes a difficult thing to come back to over & over again.

I've long been a fan of this site, though I rarely read it. I find it relevant to my interests, if you will.

This summer I read a tiresomely haughty reaction to the site, in which the author hoped to remind readers that Lander is not a genuine anthropologist—whatever the hell that means.

Your comparison of "white people" to "Democrats" is insightful. I think that white people like stuff like Stuff White People Like because the stereotypes are ultimately complimentary. What's the opposite of a backhanded compliment? A forehanded insult? Whatever it is, that's what this blog and everything it represents are to me. White (Democrat) people read this and chuckle to themselves, saying, "My, I do enjoy a lot of opportunities, don't I?"
