Facebook spam?

Either there’s a new problem on Facebook, or someone with whom I am “friends” (that is to say, they “friended” me) had their account taken over by spammers.

Here’s a wall entry by this person, written today (I’ve blurred to name to protect her privacy):

Facebook spam

I’m not the only one that her account sent these messages to. Let’s hope it’s an isolated case of an account being hacked and not a glimpse into the eventual future of Facebook as an open system.

One Response to “Facebook spam?”

  1. I’ve had this happen once in all my years on Facebook. I believe it was probably about six months ago that it occurred. It was pretty obvious to me that the account was hacked. I hadn’t spoken with the person in some time at that point, so I never followed up, but the person was less than computer literate and seemed like a prime target for password guessing.

I never got into MySpace, but hear that that’s still worlds worse. The spam adds I’ve been getting recently on Twitter were really starting to irk me, but haven’t gotten any in weeks now, which is hot.
