After a number of delays, OpenOffice 2.4.0 has been officially released. Get it here. Check the mirrors for your own OS and localization. OpenOffice 2.4.0 has not quite been released yet. Some major new features include OpenGL transitions for Impress, some major charting improvements for Calc, and block selection for Writer.

  1. As much as I like you linking to my OOoNinja articles :) , please suspend any announcements and links to 2.4.0 because of this reason http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/PolicyMirrorLinking . About this time tomorrow, we can start the real party :)

  2. Hmm, I am to take it, then, that availability via the site’s bouncer does not equate to full mirror availability? I guess so…

  3. Thanks for trying with the bouncer, but there is more going on.

    1. The bouncer link may suffer linkrot
    2. Not all QA is done yet
    3. Some mirrors are not ready yet
    4. The marketing and press release are not yet ready
    5. They want people the option of using the download wizard to choose language, OS, etc.

If it were really ready now, they would announce it. They aren’t just trying to make us suffer in anticipation. :)

  4. Are you sure? Sometimes I think open source developers enjoy a certain amount of pain…
