I thought the whole "eccentric-and-harmful-but-curiously-symbolic" meme he craps out again and again (pun intended) was dreadfully heavy-handed, and the bad experience I had with Choke meant I never got around to reading Fight Club, which I keep hearing was OK. But you, good sir, were even able to power your way through The DaVinci Code, an epic test of fortitude. I tip my metaphorical hat to you. Which makes it all the more maddening that the story doesn't really satisfy. Most of it reads like <em>Lord of the Barnyard</em>, then suddenly switches to <em>The Time Traveler's Wife</em> at the end, and the results are just as confusing as it sounds in the sentence. However, I do have to argue that not only does Palahniuk stay with his Christ-figure fetish <em>throughout</em> the book, he actually adds onto it by establishing a weird pseudo-resurrection and holy trinity. Regardless, his shtick is getting a little old. He needs to stray away from the formula that made his better novels so great.
