I almost didn't make it. By the last few chapters, I was on an oxygen tank and IV fluids.

My sole experience with Palahniuk is Choke, and I loathed it. I thought the whole "eccentric-and-harmful-but-curiously-symbolic" meme he craps out again and again (pun intended) was dreadfully heavy-handed, and the bad experience I had with Choke meant I never got around to reading Fight Club, which I keep hearing was OK.

But you, good sir, were even able to power your way through The DaVinci Code, an epic test of fortitude. I tip my metaphorical hat to you.

Colonic Irrigation: How to Clean Up Book Titles by Suckmaster Burstingfoam is now available in all good bookshops, and in some rubbish ones as well.

I have to agree with you- the "oral biography" really does suit the cadence of his writing style. Which makes it all the more maddening that the story doesn't really satisfy. Most of it reads like Lord of the Barnyard, then suddenly switches to The Time Traveler's Wife at the end, and the results are just as confusing as it sounds in the sentence.

However, I do have to argue that not only does Palahniuk stay with his Christ-figure fetish throughout the book, he actually adds onto it by establishing a weird pseudo-resurrection and holy trinity. Regardless, his shtick is getting a little old. He needs to stray away from the formula that made his better novels so great.

It's not my fault: subtitles are just very common in nonfiction. Everybody's got to have a poncy title, and then they've got to have a subtitle to explain the damn thing.

Looking at the Now Reading section of the sidebar, you seem to have quite a fascination for books with colons in their title.
