The point of this new font suite is to replace the old set with an analogous set written to display better. That will truly make me sad. Like 80% of everything I do is TNR (10% Ariel, 5% the oddly named Comic, and the rest falls where it may). Am going to read the .pdf but that just sounds like planned obsolescence bullshit (much like the college prof-a-trons who'd manage to get new editions of their text out every 2 years by noun rotation or whatnot but won't give office hours for their students and kill the students' chances in the used text market).
