My own feelings about Office in general and Office 2007 specifically, I must admit that it’s an attractive UI. Whether or not it’s effective is another matter entirely.

Undoubtedly so. To be fair, I at least like that they’re stirring the waters with a new UI approach, and naturally it’s visually gorgeous, but regardless of the quality of the product, we’re still talking about $$$ and semi-proprietary formats and vendor lock-in and possibly goddamn talking paperclips.
If looks could kill…
I bet I could build the same thing with CSS… that would do the same things… code a little php and save it all as an xml file that would be publically usable… If only I had the time.
Hell, for all I know that’s what Google’s Writely will end up being. But I’m sure MS will rush to the patent office with their new design.
