I'm glad it's not just me. I don't mind a tough, challenging book. I've read Joyce's Ulysses 3 times, for example. I just didn't get the feeling that Gibson's splotchy, preening writing style was worth putting much effort into deciphering. Furthermore, I'm beginning to think that the bandwagon of praise that has accompanied Neuromancer is akin to the emperor's new clothes. Still, it was rather groundbreaking for it's time, in a film noir cliche kind of way.

The "3D GUI" in Jurassic Park existed before the movie, and was an experimental 3D file system viewer written for IRIX, see fsn on Wikipedia. Also note that the computer she uses is actually a desktop system (SGI Indy).

Neuromancer is one of the few books...I'm talkin', like, three...that I've failed to finish. I was 60 pages in and I realized I had absolutely no idea what was happening. Not even a smidgen of an idea. And I didn't care. I don't understand how something so unreadable launched an entire genre. I've wondered how his other books are, but I've never been tempted to try them.
