[...] Playing some catch-up, Heliologue started a meme entitled One Hit Wonders. Unlike other references to one-hit-wonders, this made a point of describing thoses artists who can only manage to squeeze out one good album and then make hours’ worth of wretched noise.
The Return of Saturn was a better album than Tragic Kingdom. TK may have had one or two individual songs that were better (it also had outright crap), but RoS was far better as a whole.

Not even their first album was original. Their songwriting consisted mostly of bits copied from other successful acts. Part of "Timebomb" (I think) was lifted directly from a track on NIN's Broken.

Not that I am a fan of the metal genre anymore...but I would add Godsmack to the list. When they released their self-titled album, fans everywhere ate it up. People could not wait for them to bring back the kind of thunderous grooves that drove this album to success. Fast forward a year or two, and the disappointing "Awake" is like the first album played in reverse. I swear they just used ctrl-x and ctrl-v to write that album, musically and lyrically. "Faceless" was the exact same song and dance. By the third album, Godsmack had proven that they knew how to milk a once-pretty-decent idea.
